After some considerable time away from Los Angeles this fall and winter, a return to the eastside neighborhoods meant making up for lost time with a fill of favorite dishes, meals, and delicacies.

BISCOTTI AT FERRAZZANI
Most people seek out Ferrazzani in Pasadena for their handmade pasta and sandwiches (and small selection of Italian imports and goods). The anise and almond biscotti is made in house. While it can be on the slightly sweeter side (for some tastes), that makes it great for dipping into black coffee.
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE AT ALL-TIME
It’s hard to find a miss on the menu at All-Time. Chief among stand-out offerings is their chocolate chip cookie, available at their to-go pastry counter and also on their short dessert menu at dinner time. It is a flawless cookie in the classical tradition.
HAM SANDWICH AT BAR SINIZKI
At this new-ish cafe & bar, the pierógis have caused a big stir. The real star however is the jambon beurre sandwich.
RIGATONI AT SPINA
The Rigatoni Scarpariello on the main menu at Spina never disappoints. A perfectly-balanced, simple pomodoro with always-perfectly-al dente pasta.
ROSE BAKERY AT DSM
The scones at Dover Street Market — no matter what the daily offering is — are impossibly crumbly and always fresh & warm. And always served with beautiful honey butter.
CREAM CHEESE TOMATO AT COURAGE
A few years ago, The New York Times proclaimed the best New York bagels are in Los Angeles. Truth. The cream-cheese-and-tomato-on-poppy-seed is something you really miss when it isn’t a short drive away.
