This summer was spent quieting down and enjoying cooler, early-evening hours parked in some of LA’s prettiest outdoor spaces. A select few of our very favorite…
LACY PARK
The inaugural trip to this beautiful park was in 2009 accompanying friend Allison and her then newborn, Miri. It is as pretty as ever & so is the drive getting there, meandering through the more rarefied parts of Pasadena and San Marino.
AMBASSADOR GARDENS
Tucked behind Green Street and Orange Grove is a big grassy hillside that looks onto the astounding Ambassador Auditorium, dotted with manicured nooks and impressive Koi ponds.
OCCIDENTAL COLLEGE
The uniform Spanish buildings, open amphitheater and outdoor sculptures are among the charms of this secluded college campus and part of what make it so inviting to neighborhood regulars.
CALTECH
For four years niece Lily was a student at CalTech, giving reason to visit its 124-acre campus regularly. A mix of architecture — from Spanish Mission to Art Deco — sits alongside the Kubrick-esque 1960s Beckman Auditorium. For nostalgia, to feel genius-by-osmosis, and to play frisbee on the “Broad Lawn”, frequent returns to campus are still on the docket.
BRAND PARK & LIBRARY
Tucked all the way up in the Verdugo mountainside of LA’s Glendale neighborhood are the expansive public lands of Brand Park and the cool Moorish architecture of its namesake library building. Great sunset vistas abound.
